This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Commercial Liability Claim Adjuster based in the United States. The Commercial Liability Claim Adjuster will manage and resolve complex commercial general liability and property claims, including high-exposure and litigated cases. This role requires strong investigative, analytical, and negotiation skills to evaluate coverage, liability, damages, and settlement options while protecting clients' financial interests. You will work closely with policyholders, attorneys, defense counsel, contractors, public adjusters, and internal stakeholders throughout the claims lifecycle. The position offers the opportunity to handle challenging cases, influence litigation strategies, and negotiate effective resolutions in a professional insurance services environment. You will oversee reserves, authorize payments within established limits, and prepare detailed claim status updates and large-loss reports. This is a fully remote, full-time opportunity for an experienced claims professional who values independent decision-making, sound judgment, and exceptional client service. Accountabilities - Complex Claims Management: Investigate, evaluate, manage, and resolve complex commercial general liability and property claims, including high-exposure and litigated matters, from initial assessment through final settlement or closure. - Coverage and Liability Analysis: Interpret routine and complex insurance policy contracts, assess coverage issues, determine liability, evaluate damages, and apply relevant legal principles to establish appropriate claim strategies. - Negotiation and Settlement: Negotiate settlements involving substantial financial exposure with contractors, public adjusters, attorneys, and other parties while balancing fair claim resolution with the protection of client interests.
- Litigation Management: Direct and monitor defense counsel handling litigated claims, establish appropriate litigation strategies, communicate settlement objectives and monetary authority, and attend mediations and settlement conferences as required. - Reserve and Payment Oversight: Establish, review, and maintain accurate claim reserves, authorize payments within assigned authority, and ensure financial decisions align with claim exposure and applicable procedures. - Reporting and Client Communication: Prepare clear, comprehensive claim status updates and large-loss reports. Communicate claim developments, exposure assessments, settlement strategies, and material changes promptly to managers, clients, and other relevant stakeholders. - Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Maintain current knowledge of applicable case law, statutory requirements, insurance department regulations, and claims handling standards within the assigned jurisdiction. - Claims Portfolio Management: Maintain effective pending and closure ratios, organize a diverse caseload, prioritize competing responsibilities, and meet critical deadlines while ensuring accurate documentation and consistent follow-through. - Risk Assessment and Decision-Making: Apply sound analytical judgment to identify exposure, evaluate evidence, anticipate potential outcomes, and recommend appropriate resolution strategies. - Professional Collaboration: Build productive relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, handle sensitive information discreetly, and contribute to broader claims management objectives and additional responsibilities as assigned. Requirements - Relevant Professional Experience: Demonstrated experience adjusting commercial general liability and property claims, particularly complex, high-exposure, and litigated matters. Experience with construction defects, New York Labor Law claims, or medical malpractice is an advantage.
